I found this youtube video about creating anamorphic with rubiks cube, a roll of tape and a shoe by brusspup. There are both 2d and 3d versions of each object. When the camera zooms in, it's the 3d object, you can tell especially in the detail of the shoe close up that it's real. Then he uses some very good camera cuts to switch to the 2d objects before spinning them. Really cool video.
Also, He is included the images in this video for you to download and try yourself. Print them on 8.5 X 14. Cut the paper any way you'd like to add more of an effect.
